This past weekend saw CB Squasher's Kurt Ferguson and David MacVicar compete at the SMUFit invitational, held each year at St. Mary's University Tower in October. Ferguson competed in the Men's C and MacVicar in the Men's B.

Ferguson started the tournament with a 3-0 win over S. Petitpas (11-3 11-5 11-4). He continued his run through to the finals without dropping a single game. A 3-0 win against P. Hopkins (11-8 11-2 11-1) and a 3-0 win over an impressive junior player D. Wade (11-8 11-8 11-5). The run of wins saw Ferguson make it to his first tournament finals match. In the final match he lost to an impressive Evan McNichol of Halifax with a 0-3 loss (2-11 8-11 7-11). What an impressive run of wins for Ferguson and a great representation of squash in Cape Breton.

MacVicar began his tournament with a 3-0 win over S. Phillips of PEI (11-6 11-9 11-7). He continued through the draw with some close encounters; a 3-1 win against M. Cook (6-11 12-10 11-4 11-5) and another 3-1 win against L. Kosciukiewicz of the Valley (11-6 11-7 9-11 11-9). A semi final encounter with E. Melanson of New Brunswick almost saw MacVicar's exit from the tournament - down 2-0 he managed to crawl back and take the next 3 games to win out the match 3-2 (7-11 7-11 11-6 11-9 11-5) and secure a place in the final matchup. In the final against P. Tardiff of New Brunswick, MacVicar took the match 3-1 (11-6 7-11 11-8 14-12) to claim his first ever B division final.
