Committee Update – January 2023
Posted on 23rd Feb 2023, 12:00am
It has been 3 months since the new committee has taken on the task of running ASRC. It has been hard going but I believe the new committee will agree that so far it has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Since we have come onboard there have been a few successes which we hope the members will appreciate. Some of the projects we have taken on:-
- The general appearance and tidiness of the club has been improved with the appointment of Kate who has taken on the task of cleaning the public areas, changing rooms, hallways etc. around the club.
- The car park lights have been replaced and upgraded shining some light as we enter and exit the club over the dark winter nights.
- The booking system and website have been migrated to SportHQ (which has been a major challenge!).
- We have two junior coaching programmes instated with the International School and the Alhikmah Foundation. They have both signed up for 8 week programs.
- The ASRC Club Championships were held on 20th & 21st January
- We have secured a number of bookings for the function room, which are vital in helping the finances of the club.
- We welcome Tracey Munro back to the club, to work with the bar team. Many members will remember Tracey worked at the club in its busy years behind reception.
- There have also been a few new and returning members signed up at ASRC.
There has been many small jobs needing to be done and although the committee have some limited skills we needed to enlist the help of a few key members, namely Danny Selway and Paul Duncan to undertake some of the urgent repairs the committee just could not handle. Well done guys and many thanks.
Finally, securing the continued support from our sponsors SKN, A. W. Autotech, TRAC and IFB is greatly appreciated.
In the short term we have a few events up and coming, including the exhibition match between Greg Lobban v Rory Stewart (with group coaching, junior coaching and Q&A at the end of the evening). We also hosting the Scottish National Masters Championship on 3rd to 5th March.
However we have still a lot to do to move the club forward. There are a number of projects we need to take on to enhance the facility and ensure the future of the club.
As you will see the car park needs some attention, to repair a lot of the damage caused by the frost and cold winter. All the previous materials used for the outdoor bar need to be removed to tidy up the appearance of the entrance to the club.
The function room toilets need to be upgraded to promote the function room as a venue of choice for those looking to host a function.
In time we need to look to maintain the courts, cleaning the walls, repairing some of the holes that have appeared and ensuring that the courts are fit for purpose. This will be a job for when the weather improves to ensure any work that is done has been effective.
We also need to promote squash amongst the younger generations. It is great to see kids using the facility and being coached. They are the future of ASRC so we need to embrace the coaching and the promotion of Squash/Racquetball throughout Aberdeen and the surrounding areas.
The club finances need to be stabilised to ensure the future of the club. We face challenging times what with the doubling of our energy bills and the cost of living crisis affecting our members. Help with any of the above projects is very much appreciated and please do contact us to support the club. Additionally promotion of the club for functions or for court sponsorship will help keep the club finances stable and continued investment into the club.
Any suggestions / help will be much appreciated. Please feel free to talk to any of the committee about any ideas or help you can offer.
Stay safe and enjoy the facilities of ASRC.
Thanks and regards,
ASRC committee
